Filofax Heritage Organiser

Filofax UK have at last got their new Filofax Heritage Organiser on their website.

We have seen pictures of it during the last few weeks as it has been for sale through John Lewis. It has also been on Filofax Germany for a couple of weeks as well.

So this new model comes in A5 Compact, Personal and Personal Compact. I can only assume that they are using a new type of ring mechanism on these because they come in the following ring sizes:

  • A5 Compact - 16 mm
  • Personal - 25 mm
  • Personal Compact - 16 mm
Only available in brown leather at the moment.

The design is quite different from anything that Filofax have brought out before. It doesn't have a clasp and the pen loop is on the leather fly leaf, which on the compact models is going to take up some of the limited paper capacity.

There are no pockets in the covers either, there is a business card pocket on the front of the flyleaf.

Go to the Filofax website for details and photos.

  1. These look really nice it's a shame they don't make a6. I do really want a planner without a clasp.

    1. I don't think Filofax will ever make an A6 model.

Van der Spek could make you a custom A6 without the clasp. They did two compacts and a Personal for me without clasps or pen loops or any pockets!

      See my post here: http://philofaxy.blogspot.com/2016/08/van-der-spek-meets-lefax.html

    2. I would really love a tm without a clasp but I noticed how the pockets on the ones VdS make are different to the tms. I have just got a light brown a6 touch me so it would be rude not to use it for a little bit at least. I saw your customs and I really liked them - I was tempted by a custom until I saw a light brown tm on the sales page and jumped on it.

    3. I also love the business card holder style dashboard. Very nice.

  2. Thank you for the review, Steve. Do you know if that planner has a stiffener or if it is only leather? Also are the rings riveted or not?

    1. I've not received a review sample as yet, if I ever do!

The rings aren't riveted on, they look like the same ones fitted to the Classic Croc which are the PXR type which can be replaced, not as easily as the ones on Van der Spek organisers but not impossible.

Not sure about the stiffness of the cover without actually holding one.

If they send me a sample then of course I will do a full review on them.

    2. There is no stiffener in the Heritage.

  3. An A5 Compact - at last! Look back on Philofaxy and you'll see we were asking for this almost a decade ago! Unfortunately, I can't help but feel that (once again) Filiofax is very late into the market and has very probably missed the boat. It's really quite a basic model shorn of pockets and not much more than a cover. They've recently made another round of significant price rises across much of their range and I just can't see this selling in any quantity - and I'm a long-standing A5 fan!

    1. The Filofax Adelphi was probably around 10 years ago and that came in an A5 compact version with pockets including a full width one on the outside. It is one of my favourite designs - I own 4 A5 Adelphis, but some reviews gave it a complete slating because of the pockets and the ring size, and I presume Filofax were put off by poor sales.

  4. I think they look very nice though that's just from pictures on the home website. I might be persuaded to get a personal, eventually. Thanks for the alert, Steve.

  5. This is perfect, just what I've been waiting for - although I do wish there was a colour choice! Do you think it'll be around for a while or one of those that appears and you have to jump on straight away before it falls into the abyss?

  6. Think it is a very classic handsome look to it....

  7. Lovely new binders, but I wish they'd bring out a "personal" with 30mm rings. Kikki K are slaying them! Yes they are cheaper, and nowhere near as good a quality, but its the 30mm rings in personal size!

    1. If you don't mind zipped one, then personal FF Cuban zip has 30 mm. If you prefer clasp, try searching for FF Cavendish, I belive it had 30 mm rings as well (please, somebody correct me if I'm mistaken).

    2. Van Der Spek has 30mm rings on their planners. I get mine from there all the time and they are so much better quality and leather than Kikki K's.

    3. The Cavendish has 30mm rings, and works well for me

  8. This is probably the first new model produced in the last 15 years that I would consider buying. The stitching either side of the spine, cut edges of the leather and nostalgic gold embossing are all nice vintage touches, and the leather insert page looks fun.

  10. When I first stumbled across the Filofax in Cambridge in the mid-80s, I'm pretty sure that they sold some without clasps but by the time I could afford one, they all had clasps. It's really nice to see a clasp-less Filofax reintroduced. I love the simplicity of the design - less is more? I confess: I've ordered one!

    1. Yes you are quite right. There were several leather binders without a clasp then, and the Gloucester model that provided a clasp-less alternative to the Winchester. I love all those because of the simplicity as you say, and also because it makes them more like a finely bound book, and invites you to delve in.

  11. The Heritage has clearly been popular as two of the three sizes are now out of stock in the UK. Hopefully this will encourage Filofax to develop this range further.
